Since the release of the first iPhone in 2007 Apple has made significant changes and improvements in each version of the iPhone. In this article we are going to compare the original iPhone with one of the latest iPhones, the iPhone Xs. We are not going to include the iPhone XS Max in this comparison instead focusing on the XS vs the original 2007 iPhone.
First let’s take a look at the visual differences in the iPhones, and then we will go over the specs of each.
The iPhones have been following a trend of getting larger dimensions, but becoming increasingly skinny.
Original iPhone: The original iPhone was 2.4 inches x 4.5 inches and weighs 4.8 ounces. While it was smaller and weighed less than a modern iPhone, it had much thicker/ bulkier design.
iPhone XS: The new iPhones all follow a more modern design with a large but thin device. The XS is 5.65 inches x 2.79 inches and weighs 6.24 ounces.
Original iPhone: The original iPhone has a 3.5″ LCD screen with a resolution of 320×480, which is a very low resolution by today’s standards.
iPhone Xs has 5.8″OLED screen with a resolution of 2436×1125 pixels. It offers a HDR display.
Original iPhone: A low-res 2 MP camera that could only take photos. It also only had one rear facing camera, and no self facing camera.
iPhone XS: has dual 12 MP rear facing cameras that offer a range of features such as 2x optical zoom; digital zoom up to 10x, Smart HDR for photos, and much more. It also offers a 7 MP self facing camera. Both cameras offer the ability to record videos, which the original iPhone was unable to do.
Original iPhone: The original iPhone had one built in speaker, and a headphone jack. Which means there was no need for a dongle to simply listen to music.
iPhone XS: While the iPhone XS does come packed with 2 speakers, it unfortunately does not include an audio jack. This means you have to use a dongle to listen through headphones, and are unable to charge your device at the same time.
