After Apple’s September live event we are once again forced to look at the variants between the different types of iPhones. This year we are promised 3 different versions of the iPhone 11, including a Pro and a Pro Max version. However most of us are already wondering what’s the difference between them? Is the extra cost worth it or are you just getting more bells and whistles? Let’s take a look!
First we are going to discuss what is similar across the 3 devices. All three of these phones use the same A13 Bionic Chip as their processor. They will all be available in three sizes: 64GB, 256GB and 512GB. The front face camera is the same across the three devices, a 12-megapixel lens offering Smart HDR and portrait lighting.
The first phone we will take a look at is the regular iPhone 11. This is the cheapest of the three phones that will be available this September. This phone offers dual 12 megapixel ultra wide and wide cameras, with an ultra wide lens with 2x optical zoom out, and digital zoom up to 5x
The display on the iPhone 11 is a 6.1‑inch all-screen LCD offering a Liquid Retina HD display. The display has a resolution of 1792×828 pixels at 326 ppi.The phone’s full size is 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3mm, at 194g.
Apple claims the iPhone 11 uses the strongest glass of any smartphone and has a rating of IP68, for water resistance up to 2 meters for up to 30 minutes.
The phone will come in 6 different colors: purple, green, yellow, black, white and red. The starting price for the 64GB iPhone is $699 USD.
iPhone 11 Pro
One of the most significant differences while looking at the Pro is the camera. The iPhone 11 Pro offers a triple 12-megapixel ultra wide, wide, and telephoto cameras. The camera offers 2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out; digital zoom up to 10x.
The display is actually a little smaller than the iPhone 11, it is a 5.8-inch Super Retina XDR display with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 at 458ppi. The display offers HDR support compared to the iPhone 11’s LCD. The complete size of the 11 Pro is 144 x 71.4 x 8.1mm, at 188g.
The iPhone 11 Pro also offers a rating of IP68 but can actually be used into 4 meters of water, 2 meters deeper than the iPhone 11. This makes it a little safer around water then the iPhone 11.
The iPhone 11 Pro will be available in Midnight Green, Silver, Space Grey and Gold. The starting price for the 11 Pro is $999USD for the 64GB phone.
iPhone 11 Pro Max
The iPhone 11 Pro Max is a similar phone to the iPhone 11 Pro in many regards but differ in several regards.
One of the biggest differences is the screen size of the device. The Pro is 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2688×1242 at 456 PPI. This is larger than both the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. Besides that it is very similar to the Pro, coming with the same camera, specs and even coming in the same colours. The main appeal for the Max over the Pro is the larger screen size. The starting price for the 64GB is $1,099 USD.
